    Edward Whitley OBE, MCSI

    BA (Hons), IMC, PCIAM

    Edward is founder and Director of Whitley Asset Management.

    Edward chairs the asset allocation meetings and takes ultimate responsibility for the asset allocation and investment performance of all clients.

    Prior to establishing WAM, Edward worked at NM Rothschild & Sons Limited.

    Edward graduated in 1983 from Oxford University with an honours degree in English. He holds the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) Investment Management Certificate (Level 3) and the Private Client Investment Advice and Management Certificate (Level 6). Edward is also the founder and Chairman of The Whitley Fund for Nature, a UK registered charity founded in 1993; www.whitleyaward.org.

    Edward has written four books, Rogue Trader (co-authored with Nick Leeson); Richard Branson’s Autobiography (co-authored with Richard Branson); The Graduates; and Gerald Durrell’s Army.

    Edward was awarded the OBE in 2013.

    Louise Rettie MCSI

    BA (Hons), IMC, PCIAM

    Louise joined Whitley Asset Management as Finance Director in 2002. Louise is responsible for compliance, operations and client relations.

    Following qualification as a Chartered Accountant at Coopers & Lybrand, Louise joined the Corporate Finance department at Lloyds Merchant Bank and Hill Samuel. Louise left the City in 1996 to pursue her interest in the environment and conservation by working for Coral Cay Conservation in Belize; she then joined the Royal Geographical Society to run their grants programme, before moving to the Whitley Fund for Nature in 1999.

    Louise graduated from Cambridge University in 1985 with an honours degree in Law. She holds the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) Investment Management Certificate (Level 3) and the Private Client Investment Advice and Management Certificate (Level 6).

    Ian McCaig MCSI

    BA (Hons), IMC, PCIAM

    Ian joined Whitley Asset Management as a Manager in 2006. Ian looks after a number of WAM clients and is involved in investment decisions and fund manager selection and monitoring.

    Prior to joining WAM, Ian was a Portfolio Analyst in the Private Wealth Management department at Morgan Stanley & Co Limited.

    Ian graduated from Strathclyde University in 1999 with an honours degree in English. He holds the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) Investment Management Certificate (Level 3) and the Private Client Investment Advice and Management Certificate (Level 6).

    Daniel Müller CFA

    BSc (Hons), IMC, Diploma in Wealth Management and Chartered Financial Analyst

    Dan joined Whitley Asset Management in 2008. Promoted to Manager in 2010, Dan looks after a number of WAM clients and is involved in investment decisions and fund manager selection and monitoring.

    Prior to working at WAM, Dan trained as an Investment Advisor at Bestinvest Brokers in London.

    Dan graduated from King’s College London in 2005 with an honours degree in Biochemistry. He holds the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) Investment Management Certificate (Level 3), a Diploma in Wealth Management (Level 7) and in 2017 he was awarded the CFA charter.

    Kate Horton Chartered MCSI

    BA (Hons), MA (Hons), IOC, IAD

    Kate joined Whitley Asset Management in 2005. After assuming responsibility for the reconciliation of client reports and monitoring funds in relation to their peer groups, Kate was promoted to Manager in 2014 and now also looks after a number of WAM clients.

    Prior to working at WAM, Kate worked in the statistics department of the Association of Investment Trust Companies.

    Kate graduated from the University of Leicester with an honours degree in Economic and Social History in 1999 and achieved her MA in International Economic History in 2000. She holds the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) Investment Operations Certificate (Level 3) and the CISI Investment Advice Diploma (Level 4).

    Anna Powell MCSI

    BA (Joint Hons), IAD, PCIAM

    Anna joined Whitley Asset Management in 2016 as a Manager. Anna has extensive experience in asset management having run European equity funds at GT Global and Robert Fleming & Co before that. She began her professional career at Charterhouse Bank in the Private Client department, having graduated from the University of Durham with a joint honours degree in French and German. Anna maintained her interest in equity investing throughout a career break to bring up her children, and has joined WAM to develop a second career in wealth and asset management. She holds the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) Investment Advice Diploma (Level 4) and the Private Client Investment Advice and Management Certificate (Level 6).

    Alastair Killham

    BA (Hons), IMC

    Alastair joined WAM in 2016 as a Team Assistant. Promoted to Manager in 2019, Alastair now manages a number of WAM clients. He attends the Investment Committee, contributing to its discussions and is involved in investment decisions, fund manager selection and monitoring. 

    Prior to joining WAM, Alastair worked at Henderson Global Investors as a Broker Relations Analyst.

    Alastair graduated from the University of the West of England in 2015 with a First Class Honours degree in Economics. He holds the CFA Society's Investment Management Certificate and is a CFA level III candidate.

    Hugh Pecover

    BA, IMC

    Hugh joined WAM in 2016 as an Intern and is now a Team Assistant.

    In 2015, Hugh graduated from the University of Edinburgh's School of Economics with a BA in Humanities and Social Sciences. Hugh holds the CFA Society's Investment Management Certificate.

    Olivia joined WAM in December 2017 as an Intern and is now a Team Assistant.

    Olivia graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2017 with a first-class degree in Politics and International Relations. Olivia holds the CFA Society's Investment Management Certificate.

    Alex Hambro

    MA (Hons)

    Alex joined Whitley Asset Management in 2003 as a Non-Executive Director.

    Alex has been in the private equity industry both in the UK and USA for over 25 years. During this time he has acted as a principal investor; manager and sponsor of private equity and venture capital management teams. Alex also advises professional private clients upon their private equity investment strategies. 

    Alex managed the venture capital and private equity fund investment portfolio for Hambros plc, prior to its sale to Société Générale in 1998.

    As well as his Whitley Asset Management responsibilities, Alex is a founder and Chairman of Judges Scientific plc; Chairman of Benchmark Holdings plc and a director of Octopus Apollo VCT plc.
